Microsoft's 'Translating Telephone'

Posted by Audrey Dubois-Boutet on May 11, 2010

Prepare to be amazed. Microsoft has opened their doors at TechFair 2010 Silicon Valley for public viewing of some pretty amazing new technology under development.

One project that definitely stands out is the “Translating Telephone” which combines three Microsoft technologies – speech recognition, translation, and text to speech – to create a speech to speech and text to speech translator.

One great perk about the Translating Telephone is that it trains itself to recognize your voice, so it should still work accurately, even in a crowded room.

As of right now, the translator is considered 80% accurate and should easily run on an average PC. Microsoft still has a few kinks to work out before the cell phone version will be released.

This is one piece of technology that you will want to keep an eye out for. Click here for more information and let us know what you think!
